Why the date changed and the demo closed

Confirmed: the 11 June delay announcement cites a crowded September release schedule and more time to implement feedback. It does not name a particular competing game as the cause.

The 4 September update says the demo's bespoke Chapter I and Chapter VII no longer represented the retail version's polish and balance. Lothaire was placed at the end of demo Chapter I but intended for retail Chapter II. Use the current release details and current demo access evidence rather than historical promotional wording.
